A Blend Rooted in History and Hospitality

Tácnbora, pronounced Tak - en - bora, is more than a blend – it’s a story in liquid form. Crafted from a careful selection of Scottish and Irish malt and grain whiskies, it reflects the diverse peoples of the ancient Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria.

The whisky is then matured and finished in a combination of:

  • Ex-bourbon casks
  • Virgin American oak
  • Oloroso Hogshead casks

All maturation and blending takes place here in Northumberland, resulting in a whisky that is light, refined, and subtly complex.

Inspired by Anglo-Saxon Heritage

The name “Tácnbora” dates back to the 7th century, when King Edwin of Northumbria was preceded by a standard bearer carrying a staff topped with a goat’s head – the inspiration behind our Ad Gefrin emblem.

But the Tácnbora was more than ceremonial. As the king’s herald, the standard bearer symbolised:

  • Loyalty and leadership
  • Identity and belonging
  • Strength

In battle, the banner guided warriors; in peace, it signalled prestige and unity. The goat’s head itself represented vitality and guardianship, rooted in ancient symbolism.

Our whisky honours this legacy – a guardian of tradition and a forerunner of innovation, reflecting the same spirit of hospitality that defined the royal court of Ad Gefrin.
