Flýte’s name comes from the Old English verb Flýtan, a verbal duel, where participants exchanged clever, poetic boasts that were highly stylised and typically performed before an audience. This made it a form of entertainment for the Anglo-Saxons, who would present it in the great feasting hall at a royal gathering, where the winner and guests would drink to their victory. It could be seen as a precursor to modern traditions of debate, rap battles, or toasting.
The noun Flýte also means cream; and we have crafted a liquor that is rich and thick with Irish cream beautifully married with our inaugural blend, Tácnbora – meaning standard bearer.
