The Collection held within our museum is an extraordinary amalgamation of artefacts found at Yeavering and nearby, with others from the North East and the rest of England that showcase just how rich the culture of the Northumbrian court was.

Our relationship with the Gefrin Trust is particularly special. The objects found at Yeavering and loaned by them are at the core of our museum collection. We also have wonderful exhibits on loan from national institutions, the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Ford and Etal Estates, the collections of the Duke of Northumberland and other private lenders. Their generosity and trust has been overwhelming in helping us to create the Ad Gefrin experience and illuminate our vision.

The partnerships with the British Museum and Shakespeare Birthplace Trust add particular breadth to our museum exhibits. The return of artefacts originating from Northumbria and the historical context provided by their loans further highlight the intricate craftsmanship and creativity epitomised by the jewellery, ceramics, weaponry, and art of the day - which can only be described as sumptuous. These pieces are of national importance, with many not having been seen by the public for years, if at all.

As the extraordinary discovery of Sutton Hoo unveiled the riches buried in death for the people of this time – the story of Yeavering and the Golden Age of Northumberland, to be told at Ad Gefrin, reveals the riches found in life.
